[Jay and Molly host a radio show on WAMC the 2nd wednesday of each
month] They will be at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night.
By now I'm sure you know what is happening at the Garden tomorrow
night. Tomorrow is Pete Seeger's 90th birthday.
Friends and fans, on stage and off, will gather at Madison Square
Garden to celebrate, listen and sing. Most likely you missed getting
tickets. Having the first go to American Express Card holders seemed
very un-Pete Seeger-like to me. Some who listen to Folk Plus wrote or
called to ask if I knew of a way to get in. I didn't although I did
manage to get to a buy tickets site, but I was on the screen
for
tickets and could only press two, my husband and his son, unable to be
in crowds like that - with potential exposures.
But do not despair if you are not going either. I
will be playing two hours of songs for Pete.
There is an idea that began with some Austrailian
fans called "For
Pete's Sake, Sing!" http://www.mefeedia.com/entry/clay-eals-on-pete-seeger-tribute-at-the-admiral-theater/17202378
In keeping
with the message Pete has sent out his whole life, they are encouraging
people all
over the world to simply gather and sing! He was a touring
kerokee machine of his day.
So
for those of us not going, while you are doing your
bills, your housework, your homework, driving or gardening, here are
some songs to
sing along to, and some by aritsts playing at Madison Square Garden
tomorrow. Welcome to Folk Plus, this the last day that
Pete
Seeger will be 89. Lets celebrate the whole idea of singing out loud.
