John Martyn.RIP,
John Martyn, has died at the age of 60. He
was a folk-blues singer best known for his
1973 masterpiece Solid Air, the title track of which was written for
his friend the late Nick Drake, Martyn's
songs spoke of loneliness and love always wrapped up in the most
beautiful of musical accompaniments. "Able to command the
services of the world's top musicians, he played alongside Richard
Thompson, Dave Gilmour and Eric Clapton. He counted Bob Dylan and Jimi
Hendrix as friends. "

St. Cripin's Day falls on 25 October
honoring twins Crispin and Crispinian who were martyred twins circa
A.D. 286.
They are the Christian patron saints
of cobblers, tanners, leather workers and - recently - of leather
community (bikers ...)
It is a day most famous for the battles that occurred on it: the Battle
of Agincourt in 1415, the Battle of Balaklava
(Charge of the Light Brigade) during the Crimean War in 1854 and the
Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Pacific theater
in 1944. The Battle of Agincourt was dramatised
by William Shakespeare in Henry V featuring the fictional St
Crispin's day speech in which Henry inspired
the outnumbered British forces to fight the French saying 'the fewer
men, the greater share of honour". Saints Crispin and Crispinian
were removed from the liturgical calendar
(but not declared to no longer be saints) during the Catholic
Church'sVatican II reformshat saying that there
was insufficient evidence
that Saints Crispin and Crispinian actually
existed.
