: Happy 89th Birthday Pete,
and Sing Out's Spring 2008 Issue
Folk
Plus is a lyrically-based, themed folk show.
There could be bits
of Broadway, spoken work or oldies included, and that is the "Plus"
part. It airs Saturdays
from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on WJFF,
at 90.5 fm in Jeffersonville, N.Y. and 94.5 in Monticello N.Y. in a
chemical and fragrance-free space. WJFF is
Hydro-Powered
Public Radio and streams online at WWW.WJFFRADIO.ORG
THANKS SO MUCH to the
station
management for accommodating my health issues which allow me to
continue
to volunteer Saturday mornings and bring you the music that
'moves and
sustains me." - [a phrase made famous by Maris Hearn]
Dan is an Adirondack
folksinger who's also a producer. He wrote me sayin: "I
interviewed Pete in 1986 when he was on a book tour of Carry It On! The
interview originally ran in its entirety on my radio show Folk Almanac
on WCVF-FM. This tribute on his birthday uses segments from that
conversation. He's given me much encouragement through the years and I
wanted to do something to honor him. " berggrenfolk@gmail.com
A portion of Dan Berggren's 1986 Interview with Pete Seeger
At a benefit concert held Sunday in Rosendale (about an hour west of
the station) for folk singer and labor activist Utah Phillips Pete
helped to raise $5,800. On the bill for this concert were Pete
Seeger, Dar Williams and others. Nearly 300 people packed the
Rosendale Community Center on
Route 32 in Rosendale. Many stood.
