Maris Hearn passed away a year ago, its hard to believe. she was an
avid biker, activist, lesbian, folk lover, athlete, who chose the
spirit over the material and never doubted fighting for what is
right, fair, ethical and just. She graced our airwaves thursday nights
for over a decade with the Gumbo Shop playing all the old guard and
mixing it in with the new ones taking up the voices of freedom and
democracy in true sences of the words. Maris always included the weeks
calendar of histori events on her show, so to honor her memory, todays
show is music wrapped around the theme of March dates in history.
Maris' birthday of June 13 will be added next year to the Syracuse
cultural workers peace calendar.
