http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A2586495Stan Rogers died 24 years ago
today.
Stanley Allison Rogers was born on 29 November, 1949, in Hamilton,
Ontario,
Canada. At age 5, Stan received his first guitar, built by his uncle
out of plywood, welding rods and a toothbrush. He began as a bass
player in pick-up rock outfits in his native Hamilton, before becoming
perhaps Canada's finest ever folk singer-songwriter. Though raised in
rural Hannon, Ontario, Rogers spent summers with family in Nova Scotia
and was richly influenced by the lives of fishermen and the people who
lived by the sea there.
Rogers released his self-titled debut album in 1971. After 1974, a
period of playing the coffee house circuit with his brother Garnet
on backup began. His first independent album, Fogarty's Cove, was
released in 1976 on the short-lived Barn Swallow Records label. Rogers
than went on to release a series of acclaimed independent releases
On June 2, 1983 stan was headed home from the kerrville folk festival
in texas, awhen a fire beganin the restroom on air canada flight 797. It
was forced to land in cincinatti. stan was found to be one 23 who died
of smoke inhalation. he was only 33. his ashes were scattered in cole
harbour, nova sctoia where hed written his song 45 years for his wife.
Memorials and honors were numerous. HE was posthumously awareded the
Diplome d'Hommeur by the canadian conference of the arts, an award for
trhose whove contributed outsatnding sercie to the arts in canada. the
cbc and others commemorate this date every year as a sas day for
canadians, and celebrate his music.
Although firm evidence is lacking, it has been reported that Rogers
would probably have survived had he not engaged himself in seeing
others safely off the airplane.[citation needed]
Smoke had completely filled the cabin and Rogers stood by the exit,
shouting "follow my voice". He was overcome by toxic fumes from the
burning of foam in the seat cushions

Call in from Emma's Revolution: Pat Humphries and Sandy O, who
are playing a celebration in the life of Maris Hearn tomorrow at the
forestburgh playhouse.
Thier song "swimming to the other side" was the last song Maris Hearn.
Pat and Sandy graciously decided to play this benefit for the station
to honor their friend and gather her musical family and friends.
The woman are named after Emma Goldman, (June 27,
1869 – May 14, 1940) aka
'Red Emma', was a Lithuanian-born anarchist
known for her writings and speeches. She was lionized as an iconic
"rebel woman" feminist by admirers, and derided as an advocate of
politically motivated murder and violent revolution by her critics.[
Goldman played a pivotal role in the development of anarchist
political philosophy in the United States and Europe in the first half
of the twentieth century.
"The political arena leaves one no alternative, one
must either be a dunce or a rogue.

Idealists are foolish enough to throw caution
to the winds. They have advanced mankind and have enriched the world.
