HOUR TWO: The Dixie Chicks are: Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire
and Emily Robison
The next hour of folk plus you will hear them discuss the events and
their writing for their newest release Taking the Long way.
They've been controversial since 2003 when lead singer Natalie Maines
(from Texas) said, before a crowd in London: "Just so you know, we're ashamed
the President of the United States is from Texas." Later, she added "I
feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating
the rest of the world."
Many dissed them, crushed their cds, boycotted thier performances and
stations played them less or not at all.
Michael Jackson has questionable morals, but isn't banned. James Brown
may beat up his wife but isn't banned. Many are arrested for drug violations
or acts of violence and are not banned. Why the Dixie chicks?
What are they saying as they come back on the scene now hitting the
press hard?
They're on 60 minutes, NPR, tv show soundtracks, cover of Time.... They're
going for the press and going big - willing to say what they think.
They say they were and are willing to put their career on the line
to do what they thought and think is right, to speak what they believe.
