In February last year, President Bush's Council of Economic Advisors promised us 334,000 new jobs a month if the tax cuts passed. In December, only 1,000 new jobs were created nationwide. Where are the other 333,000 jobs?Setlist for Saturday January 24, 2004
Folk Musical responces to the State of the Union Address by Bush this week
During the generation of our grandparents, careers lasted for lifetimes.
A man could spend 40 years working the same job and safely retire; this
is no longer the case. http://www.contractoruk.com/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=10470
The average stay of a person in one job is less than five years in

(In Washington, 26,000 people were dropped from long-term unemployment on January 1st. That's 26,000 people who can't find the bright economic recovery Bush promised. The unemployment numbers have only dropped because 300,000 people were dropped from unemployment insurance.)

Outsourcing is a growing trend in America - it is now all the rage.
It amounts to a huge cost reduction for businesses, and thousands of lay-offs
for American workers. http://www.contractoruk.com/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=10470
Why pay a software engineer $60,000 a year when you can pay an engineer
in India, who is equally capable, $20,000 a year?
It is being called globalisation's "next wave". Syndicated columnist Phyllis Schlafly places the blame squarely on President Bush: "What makes this racket possible is the partnership between corporations and the government."
According to C Srinivasan, head of offshore operations in India for Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Indian software companies deliver savings of more than 60 per cent to US companies, fostering growth and creating new jobs. No matter where people stand on this issue, it is a good bet that outsourcing will continue to grow in popularity, and as Srinivasan puts it: "In the next three to five years, the India solution will be a critical part of every portfolio."

Hourly wages continued to fall this year, yet the Bush White House and the Republican leadership in Congress would not even allow a vote on a measure to raise the minimum wage (which has lost 40% of its value since 1968). Bush also forced through regulations that will strip 8 million workers of the right to overtime, despite majority opposition in both Houses of Congress.

Health insurance costs are soaring. Total spending by seniors on prescription drugs has risen by over 50% in the last 3 years, yet Bush pushed the prescription drug bill that passed narrowly last fall, PROHIBITING Medicare from negotiating a lower price for seniors.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that

and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." ---Theodore
