Clear Channel also owns TV stations and venues.  Artists can't afford not to "play ball" (Boehlert's term)  with Clear Channel Boehlert says. Janet Jackson, N Sync, Madonna, Aerosmith are "Clear Channel" artists. In our area, the Dead just cancelled a show at the Clear Channel operated Montage stadium in Honesdale Pa.

California Democratic Representative Howard Berman wrote fcc regulators a year ago saying Clear Channel's vast holdings of radio stations, TV stations, concert promotion services and other distribution channels for copyright content could harm consumers. Berman said attorneys had failed to follow up on antitrust complaints he referred to them more than a year ago.

Responding to the congressman on Thursday, antitrust Chief Hewitt Pate told a House Judiciary Committee panel, that  the department's antitrust division is investigating two sets of allegations against Clear Channel, including a specific charge that the company had limited airplay of artists who do not use its concert services.
