Today Folk Plus and Jambalaya joined times to air a three hour special on the life and works of Stan Rogers, originally aired on WFDU and put together by ROn Olesko. It was 20 years ago this month that Stan died in a plane fire after returning from the Kerrvilee Festival.
WFDU-FM's TRADITIONS
Playlist for June 1, 2003
HOST: Ron Olesko
Guests: Ariel Rogers, Paul Mills, Grit Laskin & Shirley
Keller's 1982 interview with Stan Rogers
Todays show was a 3 hour documentary/retrospective on the
late Stan Rogers. We broadcast it on the eve of the 20th
anniversary of his tragic death. We tried to tell
Stans
story through music and commentary from those who knew him.
We also heard from Stan himself, from a two part interview
that he did at WFDU-FM's Teaneck studios in 1982 with former
WFDU program host Shirley Keller.
I received e-mails from listeners in Canada, Cape Cod,
Florida, England and points in between. It was an honor
to
produce this show and I appreciate that it was well
received. I am also so happy to see that many other
radio
shows remembered Stan in their playlists. I will produce a
list in the next few days.
This three hour documentary took many long nights of editing
over the past month and a half. I found it very rewarding.
As you look at the playlist I'm sure you will wonder "why
didn't he play such-and-such a song?" Stan had so many
incredible songs that it was impossible to play all of them.
I also had to leave out a number of great comments and
storys. I could have easily turned this into a six hour
broadcast, but I think it turned out real well.
(Tune in to TRADITIONS every Sunday from 3 to 6pm Eastern
Time over WFDU-FM 89.1 in the NYC/Northern New Jersey or on
the web at www.wfdu.fm )
