A
tribute to tributes
May 18: Dave Van Ronk Day, was officially declared by the city council of New York. Umanoff Guitars in NYC, the Slater Mill Museum Shop in Rhode Island will be featuring Dave Van Ronk music all day in their shops on Sunday May 18th. In Tokyo, an enterprising fan of Dave's is hosting a Dave tribute at the Tokyo Folklore Center on the 18th.
Two shows are slated for The Bottom Line with Tom Paxton, Rosalie Sorrels, Suzanne Vega, Sylvia Tyson and many more celebrating the spirit and legacy of the Mayor Of MacDougal Street. Part of the net proceeds from the show at the Bottom Line will go towards bringing Dave's very last concert to disk. On Sunday May 18th singers will gather to pay a tribute to Dave by either singing one of his songs, or one they wrote for him. Today's Folk Plus covers other songs written in tribute.
