He died Thursday. When I heard the news, it was followed by an old interview, and one sentence of his struck me:

That's probably one reason why so many young children are attracted to stories about heroes and villains. Those figures may often represent a "good" inside force which can win out over a "bad" inside force. Young children, with their shaky controls, cannot always be sure what the outcome of the good-bad struggle inside them will be, and it may reassure them to find the "good guy" winning time and time again.

Offering as many creative and constructive outlets as possible is an important way parents can help their children learn to cope with anger. Of course, the ways we ourselves express our anger will influence our children the most. That, as well as our reactions to depictions of anger in stories or television.
Anger is a difficult feeling for most people - painful to feel and hard to express. It can help us and our children to remind ourselves that having angry feelings is a part of being human, whether we like it or not. It's simply a fact that lovable people get angry sometimes. We can't expect our children never to be angry, any more than we can ask that of ourselves, but we can help them find healthy ways for them to deal with the mad that they feel... and help them know the good feeling that comes with self-control.
