Up next youll hear David Massengill with a story about Van Ronk waking after an evening with Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell and discovering a song in his own handwriting.
Dave spent 47 years in the Village. Discussion on whether the current
contemporary folk acts stepped on the shoulders of the likes of Dave. There
are cuts from interviews with Pete Fornatelle and with John Pratt. There
are cuts live from Speak Easy, a club that I began in the early 80's. It
opened as an all night folk music club. Dave was often present, and part
of the steering committee I set up to manage the place. He offered services
for the open mikes, judging for the Bob Dylan sound-alike contest,
and for the errotic song night. Photos...see Speak Easy
