Angela and Vinnie, 1981 |
In the summer of 1981,
Vinny Vok and Angela Page explored potential sites for a new all folk music
club in New York City's Greenwich Village.
A former disco on MacDougal Street agreed to try the new format and the opening of Speak Easy was Sept. 18th 1981. |
| Money
from opening night funded the purchase of a new sound board. The club was
open every night after opening night. Our stationary read:

Sundays
through Thursdays there was a cooperative showcase run by and for the musicians.
These evenings both exposed new talents and provided opportunities for established acts to enjoy playing unannounced. |
